The DocuMentality Team

Rebecca is a qualified psychotherapist and freelance documentary producer. She founded Film In Mind in 2018 to address mental health in the film industry. She offers therapy, clinical supervision, consultancies and workshops to filmmakers working in difficult situations and with vulnerable people. She has spoken at film festivals and delivered training and support to organizations on the issue at Berlinale, IDFA, IDA’s Getting Real Documentary Conference, Sheffield DocFest, WIFTV & London Screenwriters Festival. Previously, she worked extensively with the Scottish Documentary Institute as a producer and on their impact work, most notably on the successful campaigns around award winning documentary, I Am Breathing and Seven Songs for a Long Life and recently joined the impact team on Evelyn, made by academy award-winning director Orlando Von Eisendel. Her last feature, Becoming Animal, a Swiss/Scottish co-production, directed by Emma Davie & Peter Mettler was released in 2018 and she is in production on a new feature with award-winning filmmaker, Duncan Cowles, about men’s mental health. 

Rebecca Day

Malikkah is a freelance producer and documentary community builder, currently serving as the Director of Industry and Education for DOC NYC and as coordinating producer on Free Money, a documentary about universal basic income. She also was a psychotherapist and counselor for the past decade. As a therapist, she treated individuals with mental illness and substance abuse and approached her work from s strengths perspective. Integrating mental health and the doc filmmaking, she has served as a mental health consultant for a group of young BIPOC/LGBTQ+ filmmakers sponsored by POV. Malikkah moderated a panel discussion focused on mental health and documentary filmmakers hosted by the D-Word and DOC NYC. She has also been a Sundance Collab Community Leader, an active member of Brown Girls Doc Mafia, an Ambassador for The D-Word’s weekly Zoom gatherings, a Docs In Progress Fellow, and a board member of Women in Film and Video-DC.

Malikkah Rollins

Marjan is an Iranian documentary filmmaker whose films examine identity, community and social justice. Most recently, and together with Grace Lee, she produced and directed And She Could Be Next, a two-part documentary series about women of color transforming American politics from the ground up, which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Best Documentary. Until 2018, Marjan was the longest-serving President of the Board of the International Documentary Association (and the first woman of color to lead IDA since its founding in 1982.) She is a Co-Host of The D-Word, a Board Member of Chicken & Egg Pictures and a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. 

Marjan Safinia

Erica is a Co-Host of The D-Word and is the author of Creative Resilience, a blog and forthcoming book that helps artists across disciplines better navigate the emotional ups-and-downs of the creative process and creative careers. She has more than 20 years of experience working both as a documentary filmmaker and helping other documentary filmmakers as a story consultant, artist services provider, cheerleader, and champion. She co-founded the Washington DC-area documentary film organization Docs In Progress where she also served as its Founding Executive Director for more than a decade. There she piloted fellowship, residency, and work-in-progress programs that received support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and many other funders. She is also on the steering committee for the Sundance-supported Mid-Atlantic Independent Media Coalition and has done contract work for the International Documentary Association, including serving as Jury Chair for the student category of its annual awards and as a reviewer for its Enterprise Fund. She is a member of the IDA, FWD-Doc, and Women in Film and Video-DC. 

Erica Ginsberg

Doug is a veteran New York-based documentary director-producer, and highly sought-after story consultant. His critically acclaimed, multiple award-winning feature films (including 51 Birch Street, The Kids Grow Up and 112 Weddings) have screened in dozens of leading international film festivals, and have been released in theaters and broadcast on television throughout the world. In addition, Doug is the founder and co-host of The D-Word, the leading online discussion forum and community for documentary filmmakers worldwide. He is currently on the Advisory Board of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, and a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

Peter is an award-winning filmmaker and entrepreneur and a leading expert in marketing and distribution for films and series. Gerard provides consultancy on content, strategy, and tech for various companies, including current clients Metrograph and Adventr. He is a co-host of The D-Word, responsible for its digital platforms. Gerard recently co-founded Welcome, the critically acclaimed venture-backed travel app, and was formerly the General Manager of Entertainment at Vimeo, overseeing strategy, product, engineering, curation, operations and marketing for Vimeo’s viewing destinations on the web, TV and mobile, including Vimeo Staff Picks and Originals - such as High Maintenance - and the open platform for free and VOD films and series. Gerard was the founder and CEO of Distrify, an innovative direct-to-fan video-on-demand service and online social cinema-marketing suite, for which he won the British Council’s Creative Entrepreneur Award. Gerard also founded production company Accidental Media, where he won several awards for his filmmaking, including a BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award.
